A man in Orissa was so shocked after he heard that his wife had given birth to a girl child that he fell to the ground, hit his head against a wall and succumbed to his injuries.I hope the wife is safe.

It's just tha the wife and her children would have suffered even more, already in poverty and then without a breadwinner after he died, life would have become even more harsh for them in Orissa.
The man was a victim too of the overwhelming complexity of intertwined social attitudes and backwardness that led him to think like that. Changing their mentality and attitude is the key.
